The Oak Group supplies medical intelligence to increase efficiency in providing healthcare by ensuring that patients receive the right care in the most appropriate care setting. The Oak Group is the leading provider of solutions for ‘Care Setting Management’ in both Medical/Surgical and Mental Health. We provide an evidence-based tool, Making Care Appropriate to Patients (MCAP), to help healthcare organisations quickly and accurately identify both the most appropriate care setting for each patient based on clinical need and the reasons why some patients are not being cared for in the appropriate care setting.
MCAP criteria development has been ongoing at The Oak Group and its predecessor organisation, Utilisation Management Associates, since 1987. Prior to that time, many of the individuals who helped develop the original MCAP Criteria had participated in the development of the AEP (Appropriateness Evaluation Protocol) Criteria. AEP was the first attempt to logically understand the reasons that patients are admitted to and continue to stay in the hospital and to decrease the variability of reasons for admission and length of stay.
